OCEAN PINES -- Oh, what a beautiful day! Spring is here at last, and as I sit here looking out my picture window, I am surprised to see my yellow and white daffodils in full bloom. What a great way to start the day in Ocean Pines.

Congrats to the Girl Scouts and the celebration of their 100th birthday at the Clarion. The Chesapeake Bay Council had much fun meeting Girl Scouts of all ages. They filled the Crystal Ballroom, exchanging the swaps that these talented Scouts made during their troop meetings. Our eyes we truly brightened when looking at the beautiful, four-tiered birthday cake made by Cupcakes In Bloom of Berlin. It was built using many cupcakes, and each one was decorated with daisies in honor of Girl Scouts founder Juliette Gordon Low. There were also extra cupcakes displayed on all of the tables that the attendees enjoyed eating. Their next big event will take place on Saturday, June 9, called "Girl Scouts Rock the Mall." It will be held at the National Mall in Washington, D.C., and will include a sing-a-long. They will have opportunities to visit program tents, making new friends, exchanging swaps and enjoying America's heritage in its own front yard. Registration is $10 per person and includes an official t-shirt and commemorative patch. Contact local troop leaders to sign up or call Chesapeake Bay Council at 410-742-9506.

Don't throw away those food coupons! I happen to be collecting coupons for Stevenson United Methodist Church in Berlin, as they use them to help feed those in need every Wednesday. I used to throw them away too, but now that I know they will be put to good use, I am saving mine and would appreciate any coupons you are not interested in using. Just drop them on my porch, or give me a call at 410-641-7667.

Can you believe Easter will be here on Sunday, April 12? Ocean Pines Recreation and Parks staff is planning their Annual Easter Celebration on Saturday, April 7, in White Horse Park from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. There will be an Easter egg hunt, best bonnet and basket decorations contests, lots of prizes, games and cotton candy. Kiwanians will be selling hot dogs at the event; bring the children and have fun. Rec and Parks is looking forward to the donations of candy that residents provide each year. If you can help with candy donations, just drop it off or call 410-641-7052 for more information.

The DelMarVa Republican Women will be hosting a presentation on sharia law as indicated in the teaching of Islam. This beautiful tapestry can be hung on a wall or used as a cozy throw. They are $65 each for orders pre-paid right now, and the cost will be $75 after the upcoming shipment has arrived.
