The Oklahoma City Thunder play their final game of March against the Los Angeles Lakers. The game marks the first time Derek Fisher returns to the Staples Center since leaving the Lakers and going to the Thunder. Should Oklahoma City beat Los Angeles, the Thunder will be considered one of the elite teams in the NBA if it wasn't already.
The remainder of the season will not be easy. Oklahoma City has 15 games in 25 days during the final month of the 2011-2012 regular season . Some opponents will be stronger than others.
Chicago Bulls, April 1
The very next game after the grudge match in Los Angeles features the first time this season OKC plays the Chicago Bulls. Even without superstar Derrick Rose, the Bulls have been a potent team. Chicago is the best team in the NBA and has already clinched playoff spot.
Memphis Grizzlies, April 2
The Memphis Grizzlies are quickly becoming fierce regional rivals with the Thunder. Last year's playoff series was fantastic. The Grizzlies have climbed back into the brutal Southwest Division race after having a rough start to the season.
Miami Heat, April 4
The Miami Heat have lost just two games at home, the best in the NBA. The Thunder will be going to Miami April 4. The Heat will be angry after losing to the Thunder March 25 by 16 points. Even as a fan of Oklahoma City, I can see this game as a loss unless Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook go ballistic and play out of their minds.
Los Angeles Clippers, April 16
The last time Oklahoma City traveled to southern California to take on the Clippers, Blake Griffin had a monster dunk over Kendrick Perkins Jan. 30. The Clippers are just two games behind the Lakers in the Pacific Division which will be a tough division to win.
Lakers, April 22
With three games left in the regular season, the Thunder go back to Los Angeles to play the Lakers. By this game, Oklahoma City should be fighting for the top spot in the Western Conference playoffs. Hopefully, head coach Scott Brooks will be able to rest his starters enough to take some pressure off the young guys who are trying not to wear themselves out before the postseason arrives.
William Browning has been a fan of the Oklahoma City Thunder ever since the team relocated from Seattle. As the closest NBA team to Branson, Mo., the Thunder serve as the regional team for southwest Missouri.
