OMGPop was founded in 2006 (back then, it was called "iminlikewithyou.") Its "Draw Something" game, available for both Apple and Android devices, has been a near-instant hit with users, reportedly receiving 35 million downloads in just six weeks. The app allows users to draw something and have other players guess what it is.
OMGPop chief executive Dan Porter said that his company worked hard to lay a groundwork of both online and offline word-of-mouth buzz to help make the new game a success. But still, "it just grew so fast it was shocking to us," Porter said.
Porter said there are no plans to change to app following the deal, since "people love the game and the game works."
The move comes about three months after Zynga made its stock market debut in an IPO worth $1 billion.
