Fun Club Chit Chat: Several new shows announced - York News-Times
Mar 21st 2012, 07:07

This is the time of year when the various theatres reveal their schedules and shows for the upcoming year.

Last week we announced that the Lincoln Continentals are performing their "Salute to Sinatra" on Saturday, April 28. Several reservations have been received, but there are plenty of tickets remaining.

The price is only $45 which includes busfare, ticket and dinner.

If you like Old Blue Eyes, this is for you. Just contact the Fun Club office any weekday morning at 402-362-4478.

The Continentals are a volunteer group of men who "just love to sing". There are about 70-75 in the chorus.

They practice every Monday evening and give an annual concert in the spring. The Fun Club has attended several of their performances in the past and has always thoroughly enjoyed the show.

The members' hearts and souls are poured into this production.

This year they are also bringing in an award-winning Barbershop Quartet "Voices Unlimited" from Kansas City as an extra treat. Just call for reservations.

New Grand Island shows

The Grand Island Concert Series has just announced their schedule for the upcoming 2012-13 season and the Fun Club has jumped aboard four shows.

On Tuesday, Oct. 30 the Siberian Virtuosi is scheduled. This is an ensemble of 12 violinists and a pianist from Sakha, a republic formed after the breakup of the USSR.

These amazing artists started in Russia in 1994 and have given 1200 concerts during the past 17 years. They have performed all over the world and this is their first tour in the USA.

They feature selections from Handel, Mozart, Schubert, Brahms, etc. The price will be $50 with dinner and transportation included.

Celtic Fire, which features Irish music and dance, will certainly be a big hit.

The Fire will be in Grand Island on Friday, Nov. 16. Their hot Celtic music and amazing Irish step dancing has thrilled audiences on two continents since they were formed in 2005. This may be a fast sell-out.

On Sunday, Feb. 3, the Church Basement Ladies #2 will be back in Grand Island with their unusual comedy.

The Fun Club has seen these gals on several previous occasions and always enjoyed their antics. After the success of their first musical triumph, these same ladies built a sequel, which has also earned huge reviews throughout the Midwest.

We have seen their original production, also number two and their Christmas show in the past few years. They seem to have the knack of presenting a hilarious comedy!

The last new GI show which we will sponsor is "Take Me Home: the Music of John Denver" scheduled for Wednesday, April 10, 2013. Jim Curry has emerged as the top performer of John Denver's music today.

He is the first and only full–length John  Denver tribute to headline in Las Vegas.

All of the Grand Island series are priced at $50 with admission ticket, busfare and dinner included. We know some of the above will be quick sell-outs, so members are advised to call and make reservations ASAP.

Don't miss the Lowes

A most fantastic array of talent in one family can be found in the Lowes. They are featured as the finale of the 2012 G.I. Concert series and are performing at Grand Island High School on Tuesday, April 24.

These seven family members literally can do it all: they possess fabulous voices; they all play several instruments and even some are excellent dancers. Two of the family members are composers and they may offer some original music.

We know what great entertainers the Lowes are because the Fun Club has brought them to York twice.

If you've seen them before, you'll enjoy them again. If you've never seen them, you should do so and here is another chance. The price is $50 and we have a few tickets still unsold. Just call.

Fab Four

On Saturday, March 24, the Fun Club will be taken back to the era of The Beatles by a quartet known as the Fab Four.

Because of some late cancellations, we have several openings for this outstanding tribute show.

The performance will be at the Lied Center in Lincoln and is priced at $85 with dinner and transportation included.

We have excellent reserved seats. Please call at once if interested, 402-362-4478.
