Those of you too anxious to wait for the movie's release before jumping into the world of The Hunger Games may want to check out a recent iOS game based on the franchise. The Hunger Games: Girl on Fire just hit the App Store earlier this week and offers up some fun and challenging side-scrolling action, for free.
Anyone who's played Cannabalt before should feel pretty familiar with Girl on Fire; it was developed for Lionsgate by the same Adam Saltsman who introduced that gem to the world and sports a similar 8-bit retro style. The game also features artwork by Super Crate Box's Paul Veer and a soundtrack by Super Meat Boy composer Daniel Baranowsky.

I've spent a little time in the game and found it pretty entertaining. Unlike many iOS titles, especially those tied to a feature film, Hunger Games: Girl on Fire is actually challenging. However, the controls are simple and work well on a touch-screen device; tap on a target to shoot it down with your bow & arrow and swipe up or down to switch which level the character is running on. Like Cannabalt, your character will begin running as soon as the game starts and pick up speed as you progress.
If you get bored with the game don't forget to check out the extras menu. There you can watch trailers, order tickets to your local cinema and check out the upcoming Facebook game, The Hunger Games: Adventures.
