Girls' basketball » Despite light atmosphere, players compete hard in salute to prep careers.
Taylorsville • They were only a team for a few hours, but Natalie Parsons couldn't remember a more fun game in her high school career than playing with the 4A All-Stars.
"It's kind of amazing to play with these girls who have kind of been your enemies and work together," the Woods Cross senior guard said. "It's really the opportunity of a lifetime to be a part of it."

The state's top senior girls' basketball players got a final salute to their high school careers Saturday at Taylorsville High School for the Utah Women's Basketball Coaches Association all-star games. The three contests are less about competing and more about one last time on the high school court.
"It was fun, we had a great group of girls," Syracuse forward Makenlee Williams said. "I honestly just wanted to let the ball roll a bit so it wouldn't end."
The scoring totals were high, but the games were physical. Fouls and hard drives into the lane were the order of the day. Players were scraping for rebounds and loose balls, even as the score margins widened.
But the physical play didn't take away from the relatively light atmosphere - one of celebration rather than competition.
"It just gets better every year," said Skyline coach Deb Bennett, who coached the 4A team. "We have a lot of great players here, and it's a tribute to the basketball in this state."
5A North All-Stars 105, 5A South All-Stars 91 • The North team ran wild in the second half to draw up a big lead on the South and break the century mark. Syracuse's Makenlee Williams led the North with 21 points, but Bella Swan, Amber Daly, Courtney Hurst, Dezz Ramos and Erica Olpin also scored in double figures. Alta's Makenzi Morrison also had 21 points to lead the South, and Lone Peak seniors Cami Simons and Karlie Taylor combined for 23 points.
4A All-Stars 89, 3A All-Stars 59 • The 4A shooters were solid from midrange and beyond, and the 4A posts were dominant on boards and putbacks. Bountiful's Natalie Parsons led the team in scoring with 17, while Cyprus' Lori Parkinson was the strongest inside presence with 16 points. Miranda Averett of Carbon led the 3A effort with 17 points, while Carbon teammate Rachel Scoggins and Juab's Tessa Bradford combined for 19 points.
1A All-Stars 74, 2A All-Stars 57 • The 1A team grabbed rebound after rebound to help dominate the paint and get second chances, while a tough zone kept 2A from doing the same. A pair of players from Rich did the most scoring damage, with Courtney Lamborn scoring 19 and Tristin Bowers adding 12, but Wayne center Haley Robins also scored 10. North Sevier's Kelsey Barney led 2A with 15 points, while Millard's Keri Brunson and Kanab's Calli Jackson each had 10.
