Wizards vs. Celtics: Minus Nene, Washington falls flat, loses third straight ... - Washington Post

Jordan Crawford led the Wizards with 20 points, but the team shot just 34.5 percent from the floor. Seraphin got his fifth start of the season and responded with career-high 15 points and 11 rebounds. He caught an alley-oop lob from Wall and was able to help limit Kevin Garnett to just 10 points on 3-for-10 shooting.

Wall finished with 12 points and nine assists, but he missed 12 of his 17 shots and also collected a technical foul in the fourth quarter as the game unraveled after Wizards made another futile run. Rookie Jan Vesely had a career-high 11 points and six rebounds and Chris Singleton also had 11 points for Washington, which will complete its first set of three games in three nights on Monday against Detroit at Verizon Center.

The Wizards (11-37) had hoped to avoid suffering a four-game sweep to the Celtics but found out they wouldn't have Nene shortly before the game and were in a noticeable funk at the start. They missed their first eight shots and didn't connect on a field goal until Trevor Booker made a jumper from the top of the key with 7 minutes 19 seconds remaining in the first period — and brought his team with 15-4.

Booker has been playing with plantar fasciitis in his left for the past few games but he landed awkwardly after elevating for an offensive rebound in the first quarter and came up limping. He still tried to play through the pain but showed that he wasn't quite right when he drove down the lane missed a dunk.

Ray Allen sat out the game with a sore right ankle, but Avery Bradley made sure the Celtics didn't have any sort of letdown as he went 7 for 7 and scored 15 points in the first period. Bradley entered the game averaging just 4.4 points, but he scored in a variety of ways, connecting on a three-pointer, a reverse layup and even catching a pass that Brandon Bass bobbled to sink a bank shot in the same motion.

Bradley outscored the Wizards in the first period, as they set a new season low with just 12 points and shot just 3-of-22 (13.6 percent). The Wizards' previous low for a first quarter was 14, which was they did twice this season, including on Jan. 23 in Philadelphia in Flip Saunders's last game as coach.

When the Wizards were in Boston more than two months ago, Saunders was ejected less than two minutes into the game when he received two technicals for arguing a non-call and had to be restrained by Andray Blatche.

Wittman stuck around for the finish, but the situation didn't improve much in the first half as the Celtics extended the lead to 49-24 when Bradley made two free throws with 3:58 left in the second period. Bradley scored 19 of his career-high points in the first half and reserve Greg Stiemsma added 10 points and seven rebounds.

Bradley made a long jumper to give the Celtics a 55-34 lead to start the third quarter, but Wall helped the Wizards go on a 13-0 run to get back into the game. He hit a pull-up jumper, made a driving dunk down the lane, then buried another jumper. Crawford then sandwiched a three-point play and a difficult fadeaway around a Seraphin layup to bring the Wizards within 55-47.

The Wizards wouldn't get any closer, as the Celtics responded with 10 consecutive points in less than two minutes to put the game out of reach and end any hope of a comeback reminiscent of the ones that the Wizards had surrendered in their previous games. Paul Pierce added 21 points and eight rebounds and Rajon Rondo had 11 assists and four points for the Celtics (26-22).
