CLEVELAND -- Pistons guard Ben Gordon had to miss Wednesday night's game against the Cavaliers because of a sore right groin.
After limited participation in the team's morning shoot-around, he decided it was best to rest to avoid further aggravating the injury.
"I don't feel like I can go," Gordon said at Quicken Loans Arena. "It's pretty much feels like the last game.
"Last game I tried to get out there for six minutes and I was kind of hobbling around, so it's just smart to stay off of it so it doesn't get any worse."
He said he felt the pull in the third quarter against the Knicks on Saturday night and could manage only six minutes Monday night against the Wizards before leaving the game for good.
With Gordon's injury and Rodney Stuckey (pulled hamstring) leaving in the first quarter, Austin Daye played almost 30 minutes. Daye scored eight points in Wednesday's 87-75 win over Cleveland.
Gordon is averaging 12.3 points per game for the season. He dazzled with 45 points March 21 at Denver in a 116-115 loss.
"I just started shooting the ball well, playing well, then kind of tweaked the groin," he said. "I'll be back, just have to rest it."
MORNING High jinks: Assistant coach Roy Rogers took some barbs from the players because of his inability to throw a 3-pound basketball and hit the Quicken Loans Jumbotron hanging over mid-court.
He had several attempts come up short. Jonas Jerebko walked to center court and pulled off the feat. Daye was able to thump it off the Jumbotron and walked triumphantly off the floor. Rogers had to make the short walk back to the team hotel for his failure.
