The Anaheim Ducks are finished with the Los Angeles Kings for this season - and just about done as far as their postseason chances are concerned. The Kings, meanwhile, are right in the thick of things.
Alec Martinez, Anze Kopitar and Justin Williams scored first-period goals, and the visiting Kings kept pace in the Western Conference playoff picture with a 4-2 victory on Friday night.
"Right now, it's desperation time for us, obviously," Kopitar said.
The win moved the Kings into a tie with the Sharks and Calgary for ninth place in the Western Conference, one point behind Phoenix and Colorado.
Blackhawks 4, Stars 1:
Dave Bolland and Patrick Sharp scored in the game's first two minutes, and Corey Crawford made 21 saves for visiting Chicago, which won for the sixth time in eight games. ... The Stars' lost their second straight after a 10-0-1 streak.
Oilers 3, Flames 1:
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored a pair of goals and host Edmonton ended Calgary's five-game win streak.
Jets 3, Capitals 2:
Dustin Byfuglien crashed the net and scored the go-ahead goal in the third period as host Winnipeg ended Washington's four-game win streak and moved into ninth place, two points behind the Capitals.
Senators 2, Canadiens 1:
Filip Kuba scored 3:07 into overtime to lift host Ottawa into first place in the Northeast Division.
