Miami Heat's Dwyane Wade talks 'loyalty' - MiamiHerald.com

PHILADELPHIA -- For a while this season, it seemed the Heat's players had figured out how to stay out of the media's side-show spotlight. But this is a Twitter world we live in now, and the Heat was off Thursday.

Dwyane Wade couldn't help himself, apparently. As Thursday's trading deadline came to an end, Wade offered his own commentary on the NBA.

"Loyalty, hahahahaha," Wade published on his Twitter account to over 2.8 million followers.

And with that, the Heat fulfilled its soap-opera quotient for the week.

On Friday, Wade said his comment wasn't directed at anyone in particular — as in, say, Dwight Howard — but was more of a philosophical criticism of the league.

Among Thursday's more surprising trades, Derek Fisher, a five-time NBA champion with the Lakers, was traded to the Rockets.

"When I say, 'Loyalty ha ha,' that's the world," Wade said. "Think what you want to think. Loyalty means damned if you do, damned if you don't — new definition of loyalty in the world."

The irony, of course, is that Fisher, the players' association president during the lockout, fought for players' rights to move between teams more easily.

Lebron fires back

Wade and LeBron James were irked Thursday by the comparisons between James' move to Miami and Howard's choice to remain in Orlando.

After many months' worth of distractions during the regular season, Howard signed a waiver Thursday to remain in Orlando for one more season.

"We all know no matter [what], it always comes back to LeBron," Wade said. "And he understands that. It's just being the butt of any joke, and if you want to make something seem a certain way, you go back to LeBron."

During his news conference Thursday, Howard was asked if his decision was influenced by fans' reactions to James leaving Cleveland.

"I don't think LeBron wants to be hated, but he did what he felt was best for him," Howard said. "The way he did it could have been wrong, but he did what was best for him. And he has to live with it, just like me."

James' rebuttal: "I fulfilled my contract in Cleveland. I was an unrestricted free agent, and I could have done whatever I wanted to do. I was free, that's what the collective bargaining [agreement] is all about. That's why the rules is put in like that.

"I think the best thing about [Howard] is he's happy. The organization is happy that he's staying and they can move on with their season. But none of their situations — not Chris Paul, not Carmelo Anthony, not Dwight Howard — none of their situations is like mine."

REBOUNDING WOES

Don't assume the Heat's rebounding woes were righted Friday despite the victory.

The undersized 76ers are a good matchup for the Heat, and Miami started the game on an offensive tear.

The Heat hosts the Magic on Sunday night, when Miami's adjustments inside will be more noticeable.

"The last two games were really a battle in the trenches, and we've got to do a much better job with that," Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said before Friday's game.

"We've proven we can, and we've built up habits all season. Since the [All-Star] break we haven't stayed true to that."
