Leprechaun Fun on St. Patrick's Day - Patch.com

St. Patrick's Day is worldwide celebration of Irish culture and history. Why we celebrate?? St. Patrick's Day is an Irish holiday celebrated all around the globe to honor the patron saint of Ireland, Saint Patrick.

Here are some facts to share about the holiday with your kids (source: http://holidays.kaboose.com/patrick-history.html)

  • St. Patrick's Day is observed on March 17 because that is the feast day of St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. It is believed that he died on March 17 in the year 461 AD.
  • In Ireland on St. Patrick's Day, people traditionally wear a small bunch of shamrocks on their jackets or caps. Children wear orange, white and green badges, and women and girls wear green ribbons in their hair.

Have fun with some delivish little Leprechaun's this St. Patrick's Day! These little guys are dressed like shoe makers and are a symbol of the holiday. According to legend, leprechauns are aloof and unfriendly. They live alone, and pass the time making shoes. They also have a hidden pot of gold! Make them part of this years fun.

  • In the morning dye the potty water green!
  • Put shamrock stickers around the house in a trail.
  • Green milk or milkshakes are always a miscievous thing a leprechaun might do.
  • Lead the trail to a room that has been "messed up" by these little devils.
  • Hide a pot of gold for the kids to find.

Treat your family to some Irish Soda bread! All these ingredients are probably in your cupboard. This is a special recipe shared by my relative, Katie Currul-Dykeman. She is a mother of two especially Irish boys, Colin and Patrick of Sharon. Thanks for sharing this secret recipe, now you can make it your own tradition. Enjoy!
