You're having so much fun doing "Cardio Dance for Weight Loss" (Lionsgate) that it's easy not to notice you're also working up quite a sweat.

The DVD is the latest from the popular "Dancing with the Stars" franchise. Hey, if Ricki Lake and Kirstie Alley can drop the pounds doing similar routines, why can't the rest of us?

Professional dancers Kym Johnson and Mark Ballas — who TV audiences know from the ABC show — are the instructors in the seven-minute warm-up and three 15-minute dance numbers: samba, salsa and swing.

Just as Jaleel "Urkel" White and singer Gladys Knight are learning as they compete on the show, Johnson and Ballas teach a step, go through it a couple times and add on different moves. Both remind you to move so you're twisting that waist or stretching that leg farther for a better workout. As participants get used to the patterns, the speed is increased.

Johnson teaches the samba, they team up on the salsa and Ballas leads the swing instructions. They explain and demonstrate each step, and I found them easy to follow.

Once you're proficient with the routines, there also is an option of doing them without the instruction and just the music.

On busy days when I can't get to the gym, lately I've been popping this DVD in, doing the warm-up and two of the dances. When I get home at night, I do the one I couldn't fit in earlier. That's getting 52 minutes of exercise in without it being a hassle. Not a bad deal, if you ask me.
