Playing without Luol Deng, C.J. Watson and Richard Hamilton, the Chicago Bulls are shorthanded.
The New York Knicks, meanwhile, are dysfunctional, entering Monday's game on a five-game losing streak.
But the Knicks grabbed a 50-48 halftime lead thanks to Tyson Chandler's 11 points and five rebounds and eight points and five assists from Jeremy Lin.
"We've got to look back at what we did while we were winning," Chandler said. "We had a fast-paced offense. We were getting up and down the floor. Our defense was getting set. We were communicating.
"A lot of times now we let our offense dictate our defense, which we have to get away from. We miss shots, hang our heads and the other team gets quick baskets. We have to get out of that habit and we have to get out of it really fast."
Derrick Rose scored 13 points but missed 10 of 15 shots as the Bulls shot just 39.6 percent. Several times, Rose appeared to be out of control matched against Lin.
"He's earned everything he's got," coach Tom Thibodeau said of Lin. "It's a great story."
Carlos Boozer, Taj Gibson and Omer Asik each picked up three fouls for the Bulls.
