Bruins end four-game slide, fend of Flyers in shootout - NHL.com

BOSTON – Tim Thomas made sure the Boston Bruins' recent misery ended and that they're domination when leading after two periods continued Saturday at TD Garden.                 Thomas' stop of Daniel Briere in the shootout clinched a 3-2 victory for the Burins over the Philadelphia Flyers and snapped the team's first four-game losing streak in more than two years. The Bruins also improved to 27-0-0 when leading after two period this season.                 Thomas finished with 27 saves on 29 shots despite allowing the tying goal in the third period. All three Bruins scored in the shootout and Thomas' stop on Briere sealed the win.                 Down 2-1 to start the third period, Jakub Voracek tied the game at two for the Flyers with a tip-in of a Braydon Coburn shot with 4:17 remaining in regulation. Voracek won a battle with Andrew Ference in front of the Boston net to get his stick on the puck.                 After allowing the first goal in their previous seven games, the Bruins opted for a different approach against the Flyers. Chris Kelly, who had scored just once in his prior 12 games, cashed in on the rebound of a Benoit Pouliot shot on the rush for a 1-0 Boston lead just 6:23 in.                 The Bruins scored their goal before the Flyers recorded their first shot on net. Philadelphia didn't test Tim Thomas until the 9:34 mark, when Voracek attempted a wrist shot from a tough angle after a rush up ice.                 The Flyers didn't earn a power play in their last game, but twice went on the man-advantage in the first period against Boston. They failed to convert on either opportunity, and their best scoring chance of the period came after a penalty kill.                 Jaromir Jagr emerged from the penalty box and was sprung on a breakaway by a long Claude Giroux pass. Thomas was up to the task, however, as he came out of his crease and deflected away Jagr's shot with his right pad for one of his seven first-period saves.                 Boston doubled its lead before the period was out. After Brad Marchand kept in a pass along the right wall and bumped it to Patrice Bergeron in the corner, Bergeron found Tyler Seguin in front of the Philadelphia goal for a stuff-in at 17:07.

Down 2-0 after the first period, the Flyers used a second-period power play to finally get on the scoreboard. Matt Read tipped a Briere slap shot past Thomas from the slot at 9:16 to slice Boston's lead in half.
