Bayern's Schweinsteiger: Basel showdown will be fun - Goal.com

Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger claims he has no nerves ahead of his side's crucial Champions League second leg clash with Basel on Tuesday night, claiming he finds such high-pressure encounters "fun" to play in.

The Bavarians have a one-goal deficit to overturn after their visit to St. Jakob-Park at the tail end of last month.

However, while the tie is precariously balanced, Schweinsteiger is looking forward to the fixture, particularly in light of Saturday's morale-boosting 7-1 rout of Hoffenheim at the Allianz Arena.

"You always have pressure at Bayern, but I think of such a game as fun," the Germany international told reporters on Monday.

"We need to go into the game as we did against Hoffenheim. We need to set the tone in attack."

Coach Jupp Heynckes has refused to confirm whether Schweinsteiger, who made his return from ankle ligament damage as a second-half substitute in the win over Hoffenheim, will start against Basel.

The player himself is desperate to be involved, admitting: "I expect a lot from myself. It is not always easy when you get hyped up.

"What's important is how the team works, because I really care about the club."

Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is certainly hoping that Schweinsteiger will play some part, believing that his presence on the field would be a massive boost for everyone involved in the club.

"You could see on Saturday how important Basti was for the team and also for the fans - the reaction to his substitution was outstanding," he enthused.

Heynckes, though, believes his troops must manage their emotions, stating that they must play with controlled aggression.

"We need to attack, but also look good in defence," he said. "We must find the right mix.

"But in the league and in the Champions League, everything is still possible; it's in our hands."

However, Heynckes revealed that Bayern could have to make do without the services of top scorer Mario Gomez.

"We have to wait and see if he can play," he explained. "He has a flesh wound from the Hoffenheim game."
