For the parents wondering how they're going to keep their kids busy over the course of spring break, which begins today and ends Friday, there are a lot of local options for children of all ages.

School Vacation Classes at The Hyde Collection

161 Warren St., Glens Falls; www.hydecollection.org or 729-1761

Wednesday and Thursday: Design It/Build It — A Terrific Toy Emporium; 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Build a complete toy store and create a variety of toys, displays, advertising and signage in the Art Studio. Learn the use of tools and mechanical engineering skills. Limited to 12 children, ages 10 through 13. $45 for members, $55 for non-members, $10 materials fee. Wednesday: Artful Afternoons, 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. With an adult chaperone, learn about a specific artist or work of art from the permanent collection or current exhibitions; retrieve a secret password, then explore a variety of art-making techniques to create a Hyde-inspired masterpiece. Wednesday: Family Game Day, 10:30 a.m. to noon in the H. Dutcher Community Room; play board games, floor games and electronic group games. For children in kindergarten through grade 5; siblings welcome with a caregiver.

Thursday: The Plot Chickens, 2 to 2:30 p.m. in the Crawshaw Story Room. Listen to your favorite chicken and egg stories, learn some chicken rhymes, dance the Chicken Dance and make a chicken-themed craft. For children ages 3 through 5. Parents and caregivers welcome. Register at 584-7860, option 3.

Friday: Make a Mini Robot Walker, 10 to 11 a.m. in the H. Dutcher Community Room. Join Kathy and learn how to make the Robot Walker, an activity from her forthcoming book. Students will discover how roboticists use models like Robot Walk to learn how to make robots move more naturally. For children in grades 2 through 5. Register at 584-7860, option 3.

Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park

Monday: Conservation Walk from 1 to 2 p.m. at Old Gick Farm Trail. The walk will leave from the parking lot on Route 50 (past Wilton Mall). Understand the characteristics that help maintain a thick understory habitat. Pre-registration required. 450-0321.

Tuesday: Wetland Walk from 1 to 2 p.m. Meet at Neilmann parking lot on Ruggles Road, just south of King Road, for an hour-long exploration of the wetland communities. Pre-registration required by today, 450-0321.

Saratoga Spa State Park

Wednesday: Fish release from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Join in on the annual fish stocking morning at Spa State Park. Visit the preserve's table at the Geyser picnic area to participate in children's crafts, learn about the other local environmental organizations and bring a bucket to drop a fish into the creek.

Monday: Trash to Treasure from 10:30 a.m. to noon; Celebrate spring and Earth Day by recycling and re-using. Trash is provided; you make the treasure.

Tuesday: Tuesday for Tots from 10 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 3 p.m. A special time for younger visitors to gain pre-school readiness skills in a fun, social environment.

Wednesday: Mixed Media from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Children ages 6 through 12 can explore different types of art supplies and create projects to take home.

Thursday: Silly Science from 10:30 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 3 p.m. The museum's newest program; each week explore a different way science is everywhere. Learn about water, forces, seasons, animals and more.

Friday: Wiggle and Giggle from 10 to 11:30 a.m. For younger children. Through guided free play, kids will wiggle and explore what they can do with their bodies.

Friday: Wizarding Workshop from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Explore the wizarding world of Harry Potter. Make wands, brew potions and decorate a Marauder's Map. Registration is required; $3 per child.

Saratoga Clay Arts

Entire week: From 1 to 2:30 p.m. Learn basic skills and techniques on the potters wheel, create functional pieces such as bowls, cups and mugs to bring home. Ages 9 and older. No experience necessary. Members or enrolled siblings receive a discount. Cost: $150. Continued...

Wednesday: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for drop-in play and creative art studio.

Wednesday: Special Vacation Program: 2 to 5 p.m., "Caring for Kids," a program for ages 11 through 15 looking to become babysitters. Will cover child development, create a bag-of-tricks and learn basic health and safety tips. Registration required; $25 per student.

Thursday: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for drop-in play and creative art studio. Theme Thursday: Inspired by spring theme of "In Our Yard." Also from 1 to 2 p.m., "Fun with Legos." Both programs ages 5 and older.

Friday: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for drop-in play and creative art studio. Favorite author program: 10 a.m., with stories and a craft inspired by Ann Rockwell.

Spring Celebrations at the World Children's Museum

Tuesday: Learn to design and paint pysanky, traditional Ukrainian Easter eggs.

Wednesday: Learn about the Slovenian celebration of Kurent masks that help chase winter away.

Thursday: Discover the traditions of the spring festival of Martishor, celebrated in Romania and Moldova, and make Martishor pins to bring health and luck throughout the year.

Friday: Russian Shrovetide Straw Figures.
