Palin co-hosts NBC's 'Today,' pokes fun of herself - New York Daily News

Sarah Palin is looking for a game change by poking fun at herself.

The former Alaska governor kicked off her much-anticipated appearance on NBC's "Today" show by spoofing her now infamous gaffes from the 2008 campaign trail.

She opened the morning news segment reading several newspapers on the set's couch, in reference to her blunder four years ago when failed to name a single newspaper or magazine she regularly reads.

"I see she's doing her homework," said host Matt Lauer.

Palin also made fun of a highly-criticized Tea Party speech she delivered in 2010, when she scrawled talking points on her hand with notes including "energy," "budget cuts" and "tax."

The self-described Mama Grizzly was shown Tuesday in Lauer's dressing room writing notes on her hand.

A serious Palin did weigh in on the 2012 presidential election, insisting she was happy with any candidate that isn't President Obama.

She also described what qualities frontrunner Mitt Romney should look for in a vice president.

"I would advise Mitt Romney not to play it safe," she said. "Don't get someone to go along to get along."

Palin's co-hosting gig comes as she faces off with Katie Couric, who's co-hosting ABC's "Good Morning America" this week.

Couric did not mention Palin during the opening of the show.

The duo famously dueled in 2008, when Couric — then anchoring the CBS Evening News — interviewed Palin in an exchange that was widely seen as a disaster for Palin's image and John McCain's campaign.
