People can easily hop to Easter fun all over town - Clarksville Leaf Chronicle

CLARKSVILLE, TENN. — Easter will soon arrive with a cheerful abundance of pom-pom chicks and colored eggs, not to mention a certain Mr. Cottontail hopping down the bunny trail. And for kids of all ages, celebrations will abound around town.

Whichever bunny had to gather the eggs for the Parks and Recreation Spring Eggstravaganza had his hands full. There will be a whopping 20,000 eggs for kids to hunt at this largest Easter celebration in town.

Set for 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, April 7 at the Heritage Park Baseball Fields, 1241 Peachers Mill Road, the event will include games, face painting, inflatables and a petting zoo. There will also be a visit from the Easter Bunny.

The egg hunts will be divided by age category, with ages three to four hunting at 2:30 p.m., ages five to six at 3 p.m., ages seven to nine at 3:30 p.m. and ages 10 to 12 at 4 p.m.

Also on April 7, Hilltop Super Market will hold its Annual Easter Egg Hunt at 400 Highway 149. The event has now been running for 17 years and is a tradition begun by the store's owner, Wayne Hall.

Brian Bowers, the store's assistant manager, said, "It's just a way of giving back to the community, showing that he cares."

There will be a free array of fun including inflatables, face painting, games and a cupcake decorating activity. Kids will get free cookies and drinks.

"It's all of the the good little kid things to make them all hyper," said Bowers.

The activities will begin at 11 a.m. and the Easter egg hunts, which are staggered by four age groups, will begin at 2 p.m. and end around 2:30 p.m.

"The egg hunt lasts all of about two minutes," Bowers said of the eager children.

And one can understand their enthusiasm; the prizes for the children include anything from balls and baseball bats to bikes and basketball goals. The age groups are divided into four and under, five to seven, eight to 10 and 11 and 12.

There is yet another Easter egg hunt at Riverview Mounds Century Farm, 1715 Boyd Rinehart Road, but this one is at a leisurely pace. Scarlett Mulligan, the farm's co-owner, said that children can collect as many eggs as they want throughout the day and eventually turn them in for a prize pack.

The farm fun at Riverview Mounds will last from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, April 7 and noon to 6 p.m., Sunday, April 8. The Easter Bunny will also be at the farm for photos ($3 for one 4-by-6 or $5 for two). Admission to the farm is $9 for adults, $7 for kids $7 (free for ages 2 and younger). There is a $1 military discount.

For the adults in town, a couple of restaurants are organizing special themes around the Easter holiday for Sunday, April 8.

The Looking Glass Restaurant, 329 Warfield Boulevard, is hosting an Easter brunch from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The menu is set to include brown sugar glazed ham, prime rib, hash brown casserole, grits, bacon, sausage, biscuits and sausage gravy, collard greens, green beans Istanbul, Southern fried chicken tenders, cinnamon apples, white chocolate bread pudding and a "build your own crepe" station. This is an all-you-can-eat buffet at $25 per adult and $12 for children six to 12 (five and under are free).

On a similar note, the Hilton Garden Inn, 290 Alfred Thun Road, is also planning a price-fixed Easter brunch at $22.95 for adults, $11.95 for children five to 12 and $6.95 for children under five.

Highlights include a breakfast casserole, split pea soup, turkey roulade with apple and roasted pepper stuffing, a carving station, white chocolate raspberry brulee cheesecake, carrot cake and "cottontail cupcakes with jelly beans."

While Silke's Old World Breads will be closed on Easter Sunday, in the days leading up to Easter, owner Silke Tyler is celebrating in a few ways.

The store will be selling butter cookies and sweetbreads in the shape of bunnies. And on April 6 and 7 there will be the annual "Easter Egg Giveaway." Each customer will get an egg that will contain a prize, ranging from a ticket for a fountain drink up to a $10 gift certificate.

Clarksville will obviously be crisscrossed with a number of bunny trails for the Easter holiday. And whichever one people choose, it seems a basket of treats lies in waiting.
