Fun returns to WWE. And Brock Lesnar too. - Poughkeepsie Journal (blog)
Apr 3rd 2012, 09:47

There was a huge return on Monday Night Raw last night.

Fun. And fans.

"Anything can happen in WWE" has been the mantra for years, but last night proved it.

Well, here comes the pain!

In the final segment on Raw, while John Cena essentially was conceding defeat to The Rock, Brock Lesnar came to the ring. The former UFC and WWE champion shook Cena's hand, then dropped him with an F5 to a massive ovation from an amazing crowd in Miami. The bully then kicked away the silly green hat of the anti-bully.

This scene capped off a great night where the stars of the show, in my opinion, were the incredibly hot crowd in Miami. They loved The Rock when he came out to talk about his win over John Cena and when he teased making another run at the WWE title. They oohed and aahed when Lord Tensai revealed himself, unsurprisingly, as the superstar they formerly knew as A-Train or Albert.

They chanted "yes" in support of one of their favorites they felt was wronged at WrestleMania, the former World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan. Although he is a heel, he may be getting a little popular to stay that way. They chanted "yes" when CM Punk did any offensive move in his WWE title defense against Mark Henry and they hung on every move in that match. They even chanted "si" at Alberto Del Rio, when he returned to challenge Sheamus. Fans telling WWE what they want is always a good thing. They told you that you wanted Sheamus. You told them you wanted Daniel Bryan. While Bryan did not appear in front of the live crowd, he did do an interview backstage, and after Rock and Brock, was easily the most over guy on the show.

WWE followed up a WrestleMania that had a ton of buzz with a live Monday Night Raw that seems to have created possibly even more buzz. What is amusing about the massive positive crowd reaction for Brock Lesnar is that in his last match in WWE at WrestleMania XX against Bill Goldberg that guy was practically booed out of the building. Now, John Cena faces yet another challenge from someone who walked away from his treasured WWE.

I'm excited to see Lesnar this time around. He carries himself like the most important thing around. As a heel (and in building up his fights for UFC like he would as a pro wrestling heel), he has few, if any redeeming qualities. He is a no-nonsense butt-kicker who eats nice guys for lunch. Cena is a nice guy. This could be really fun.

The rest of Raw.

• Now that John Laurinaitis is the general manager of both shows, he made Punk face Henry (Henry won by countout and looked dominant in the process) and made Santino Marella defend the U.S. title against Dolph Ziggler and Jack Swagger. This was about as good of a triple-threat match in that time period that I could see these two have. Ziggler and Swagger had a miscommunication and turned on each other which led to Santino's win. After the match the heels went after Marella, but the Funkasaurus saved him and they danced the night away. Brodus Clay and Santino Marella could be fun running buddies.

• I am really happy that Lord Tensai is back in WWE. I always liked his work and they really put him over huge winning by referee stoppage after crushing Alex Riley.

• After Henry beat down Punk, Chris Jericho came out and poured Jim Beam all over Punk, saying he was going to give him his first drink. He then smashed him over the head with a bottle and left him laying. Glad to see this feud continue.

As for Henry, "A.W." or as we remember him, Abraham Washington returned as a manager/agent type, recruiting Henry. This is probably the best possible role for old Abe, whose ill-fated ECW run did more harm than good.

• Kofi Kingston defeated Cody Rhodes after Big Show hassled Cody with a mocking video.

• Eve Torres came out to be disingenuous and then The Miz beat Zack Ryder in a brief, but strong, match.

• This week's SmackDown has Sheamus vs. Alberto Del Rio where if Del Rio wins, he gets a title shot. Also, a rematch between Randy Orton and Kane has been announced.
