International Bat Awareness Celebration

Learn about bats Tuesday, April 17, through Thursday, April 19, at the Beardsley Zoo. The program runs 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and begins in the Research Station. Participate in scavenger hunts, crafts, story times and raffles. Zoo admission is $12 ages 12 and older, $10 ages 3 to 11 and seniors. Children under 3 and members are free. Recycled Crafts

Create unique crafts with recycled materials in the Gathering Space on Wednesday, April 18 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Mashantucket Pequot Museum & Research Center. A "Gifts of the Land" tour will be held at 2 p.m., where visitors will learn how Native peoples turned their resources into useful objects. Admission is $15, $13 ages 55 and older, $10 ages 6 to 15; children under 6 are free. A $5 materials fee for the workshop will be charged. The museum is at 110 Pequot Trail, Mashantucket. Hill-Stead Museum

The Hill-Stead Museum is celebrating its 65th anniversary Monday, April 16, from noon to 7 p.m., offering visitors .50 cent admission — the price of admission on April 16, 1947. With artifacts, photos, readings from Theodate Pope Riddle's diary and the original guestbook from 1947, visitors will be able to see what life during the 1900s was like. The day also includes music by Jim Mercik and Abu Alvin Carter Sr., poetry readings and estate and nature walks on the museum's property. The museum is at 35 Mountain Road, Farmington. 'Go, Dog, Go!'

Playhouse on Park presents P.D. Eastman's classic, "Go, Dog, Go!" Saturday, April 14 and Sunday, April 15 at 1 and 4 p.m. The show is recommended for ages 4 and older. Tickets are $13 to $15. Vacation Week Activities

>> View Birds of Prey Monday, April 16 at 6 p.m. at RJ Julia Booksellers in Madison. A Place Called Hope, a non-profit raptor rehabilitation organization, will be bringing a few raptors with them for a presentation. There will also be a bedtime reading of "Owl Moon" at 7 p.m.

Celebrate the 60th anniversary of E.B. White's classic, "Charlotte's Web," on Tuesday, April 17 at 10:30 a.m. "Charlotte and Wilbur's Birthday Bash" will include a discussion of your favorite characters, and the opportunity to design your own spider web with words. The program is suitable for children ages 6 to 10.

Get crafty with Chloe on Wednesday, April 18 at 10:30 a.m. With story time and plenty of crafts, participants will be able to show just how crafty and creative they can be. The program is recommended for children ages 4 to 8.

>> The New England Air Museum, 36 Perimeter Road, Windsor Locks is offering several April vacation week events. "Scientific Discovery Day" is Monday, April 16. Learn about the principles of flight with floor demonstrations by the museum staff. Visitors will also have the opportunity to participate in a number of hands-on activities.

Sit in the cockpits of six different aircrafts, such as a helicopter, airliner, jetfighter and a World War II aircraft, during Open Cockpit Day on Tuesday, April 17. All cockpits will close at 4 p.m.

On Wednesday, April 18, it's "You and Your Fantastic Flying Machine." The conference center of the museum will be filled with Legos, and children between the ages 3 and 12 can bring their wildest creations to life. Prizes will be awarded.

The museum is open daily, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $11 ages 12 and older, $6.50 ages 4 to 11 and $10 ages 65 and older; children under age 3 are free. Information: 860-623-3305 or http://www.neam.org.
