Kids, adults, dogs, cats and at least one llama are expected to be among the many heads adorned with colorful spring headgear at the Snohomish Easter Parade and Easter Bonnet Contest on Saturday.
The Easter Bunny leads the celebration of spring, believed to be the only Easter parade in Washington state, along First Street in historic downtown Snohomish. People of all ages and pets of all kinds are encouraged to wear their best hats and compete in the Easter Bonnet Contest immediately following the parade.
Animals and kids can also get in on Easter fun at Seattle's Woodland Park Zoo. Saturday, the zoo hosts its annual Bunny Bounce for kids, and also provides Easter-themed treats for zoo animals. Egg hunts for ages 3 and younger are at the picnic shelter near the North Meadow from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., with egg hunts for ages 3 to 6 and 6 to 8 in the North Meadow every half-hour from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., all on a first-come, first-served basis; bring a bag or basket for each child. Crafts, bunny encounters and other zoo programs welcome families all day, including Easter-themed treats for orangutans, lions, wolves, bears, elephants, penguins, gorillas and other zoo animals as an enrichment activity from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. All activities are free after paying zoo admission.
Seattle Parks and Recreation has events at several locations, many of them free. West Seattle community centers host a festival with bouncy toys, egg hunts for all ages (including adults) plus music by Caspar Babypants, at the Southwest Athletic Complex. Other regional events include treats from the Easter Bunny at Country Village in Bothell and Gilman Village in Issaquah, along with an egg hunt staged by Shoreline Firefighters Association at Richmond Beach Saltwater Park.
