Derrick Rose tweaked his ankle Sunday vs. the Knicks and as a result was in a walking boot Monday. He's a game-time decision Tuesday vs. the New York Knicks in yet another critical game for the Bulls as they attempt to keep their hold on homecourt advantage throughout the playoffs.
Rose, for starters, tweaked an ankle at some point in Sunday's game, which he finished. The extent of the injury is unknown, however sources said Rose wore a walking boot on Monday and his availability for Tuesday's shot at redemption against the Knicks is a game-time decision.
Rose missed several weeks of action with a groin injury and back spasms kept him out prior to that. He's been banged up the entire year and every time he returns, he winds up playing extended minutes as he did Sunday vs. the Knicks with 38 minutes in an overtime loss (in which he missed two clinching free throws).
Rose's ability to get healthy has far bigger implications than any revenge match for the feisty Bulls. If these injury issues continue to hamper Rose into the playoffs, the Bulls' shot at making the Finals becomes significantly more difficult. The Bulls have learned to play offense and even thrive without Rose, but in the playoffs when the biggest players need to have the biggest performances, this team still begins and ends with Derrick Rose.
We'll keep you updated on Rose's status for Tuesday vs. New York.
Oh, and by the way, on Wednesday the Bulls face Miami. So that's fun.
