Genshin Impact PS5 Announcement Trailer Shows Off 4K Resolution, Faster Loading Times, And More
Sony and the development team over at miHoYo have announced that the PS5 version of Genshin Impact is almost ready to enjoy with a brand new trailer. The latest video for the game shows off the improved features with the next-gen update, including faster loading times, better resolution, and more.
"The PlayStation 5 is an ideal platform to enhance the vast open-world featuring in Genshin Impact, allowing the team to incorporate more thoughts and ideas into the game, both now and in the future," said Forrest Liu, President of miHoYo, in a recent press statement. "That's why we've been working to bring the native PlayStation 5 version of the game to our players as soon as we could."

With 4K visuals and fine-tuned performance, this open-world action RPG will create an even better experience for players ready to take on the world of Teyvat. The next-gen update will not change the fact that the game is free-to-play. While there are microtransactions, our own Dan Tack mentioned that their inclusion doesn't impact the way the title can be experienced as many feared.
"Genshin Impact is a whimsical, wondrous land dripping with unbridled charm and appeal, combining a ridiculously compelling reward loop with unfettered, continuous discovery," Tack said in his full review. "In this world, I felt like a child visiting theme park for the first time — dazzled, mesmerized, and completely swept away. I only wish the shimmering glow wasn’t marred by a ghoulish monetization model, but that’s something I’m willing to overlook for my ticket to this fascinating realm."
While the improvements on the way with the next-gen update are exciting, the studio has not confirmed when this update is expected to go live. For now, we have a spiffy new Genshin Impact trailer and a smoother experience on the horizon with the PlayStation 5.

Oculus Quest 2 Has Outsold All Other Oculus Headsets Combined
The Oculus Quest 2 only released last October, but it has already managed to outsell all other Oculus headsets combined.
This news comes via a Bloomberg interview with Facebook Reality Labs vice president Andrew Bosworth, who was asked if the Oculus brand was finally going to be having a "mainstream moment."
"If you look a little closely, I think it's starting to happen right now," Bosworth said. "The fact that Oculus Quest 2--in just a few months on the market--has outsold not just its predecessor, but all of its predecessors combined, is a tremendous indicator that we've now broken through from the early-adopter crowd to an increasingly mainstream crowd."Continue Reading at GameSpot

CD Projekt Red Hopeful About Getting Cyberpunk 2077 Back In PlayStation Store
While Cyberpunk 2077 was removed from the PlayStation store in December 2020, it looks like the game could be on the way back to the digital storefront--provided Sony deems the game fit for a return.
In an investor call, SVP of business development Michał Nowakowski shared (via Kotaku), "We have published several patches. We have just published a really big one yesterday and we have published several hotfixes. Each and every one of them brings us closer to going back to the PSN store. However, the final decision, you have to understand, belongs to Sony. We do believe we're closer than further, but of course, the final call is theirs, so let's wait and see."
It's a vague statement that doesn't put a firm timeline on when we can expect to see Cyberpunk 2077 back on PSN. But at the very least, it seems like CD Projekt Red is hopeful about Cyberpunk 2077's future presence in Sony's digital storefront.Continue Reading at GameSpot

New Assassin's Creed Valhalla Update Doubles Reda's Shop Inventory, Goes Live March 30
Following player feedback, Ubisoft is changing Reda's Shop in Assassin's Creed Valhalla. The update for the shop will go live on March 30 and will make it easier to buy new items without spending all the opals you've discovered.
In Valhalla, Reda joins your settlement upon the completion of securing an alliance with Ledecestrescire. For opals, an in-game currency you can find by exploring the world, Reda will sell you unique weapons, armor, and cosmetics that rotate out of his shop on a weekly basis. Up till now, he'd sell you three new items each week. The March 30 update will increase that number to six.
This update also corresponds to a change in Reda's stock. So starting March 30, you'll have a limited window to purchase six new items. They're listed below:Continue Reading at GameSpot

California COVID-19 Vaccine Site Closing For Two Days For Anime Event
A COVID-19 vaccine site in Northern California will reportedly close this Thursday and Friday to host an anime event, according to The Sacramento Bee. That event will be SacAnime, a gathering for anime enthusiasts taking place at the Roebbelen Center in Roseville, California.
County spokesperson Katie Combs-Prichard told The Sacramento Bee that SacAnime was a "pre-existing event" booked far in advance, and that the vaccine site will extend its hours Monday through Wednesday this week into the evening to "maximize the volume" of doses administered this week, and to attempt to compensate for the closures.
Combs-Prichard also added that 90% of the week's 5,400 appointments at the site were second-dose vaccine appointments, "so closure or not, the impact on first dose appointments available in that time window is not very large." Still, it does not help with the optics as the seasons have been changing and the people have steadily finally been getting their vaccines.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Why The Suicide Squad's King Shark Isn't A Hammerhead Like He Is In The Comics
The Suicide Squad director James Gunn has explained why Sylvester Stallone's King Shark's design in the movie is slightly different than his look from the source material. Writing on Twitter, Gunn confirmed that he did in fact conduct tests with King Shark's original hammerhead design, and he thought he might end up using it. However, the fact that the shark's eyes are so far apart made for some "incredibly awkward shooting interactions" with other characters.
"I did tests with the hammerhead design, which I love & originally thought I'd use," he said. "But having eyes on the sides far apart made it incredibly awkward shooting interactions with other people. You couldn't really see him looking at the other person & the shots tended to be too wide."

Watch Mythic Quest's Ashly Burch And Imani Hakim Test Their Skills In Paper Football, Juggling, And More
Click here to watch embedded media
Mythic Quest: Raven's Banquet is an Apple TV+ comedy that showcases the inner workings of a fictional studio striving to keep its successful MMORPG on top, and it comes from the minds of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia’s Rob McElhenney, Charlie Day, and Megan Ganz. The first season was an interesting look at the trials and tribulations of game development, using smart comedy to tackle some of its growing issues. Season two is headed our way on May 7 and focuses on the zany game development team returning to the office after quarantine and trying to launch an expansion for their beloved MMORPG. Ian and Poppy are now both co-creators, but can they really work together, or are they destined to butt heads and drive each other crazy?
In anticipation of the new season, two of its stars decided to have some fun to celebrate. Actresses Ashly Burch (Rachel) and Imani Hakim (Dana) play game testers on the show, but they decided to put down their controllers and test more traditional games like paddle ball and cup stacking. Watch them deliver their verdict on these famous pastimes, rating things like "bounciness" and "fun." As expected, a lot of laughter ensues as they try out various activities with varying degrees of success. You can watch the silly antics in the video (that we received as an early exclusive) above, which also features some glimpses and hints at the events of season two. We'll just say, Burch and Hakim have really mastered the art of punching balloons, and it's no surprise that their great chemistry translates so well to the small screen.
What did you think of Mythic Quest's first season? And are you looking forward to season two? Let us know in the comments below.

Loop Hero Review
For all its automated systems, Loop Hero can be incredibly stressful. Battles play out without any input from you, navigation loops over a predetermined path, and resources are collected for you, but that doesn't mean you can take your eyes off the battlefield for even a second. This captivating mix of familiar genres demands constant attention, testing your ability to think well into the future when making your moves. It's a riveting balance of risk and reward wrapped in a deviously challenging roguelite that will tempt you into pushing forward for just one more round.
Loop Hero is a distinct mish-mash of multiple genre ideas, none of which influence gameplay enough to easily classify the overall gameplay experience. Loop Hero is primarily a run-based role-playing game in which you indirectly control a hero through procedurally generated loops. Instead of controlling the hero's movements, you mainly control what they encounter by placing objects on the loop that create the world--things like cemeteries that can spawn skeletons, villages that can heal you, or swamps that generate nasty mosquitos. These are provided by cards that you draw from a limited deck which you can edit between runs, letting you curate each one to a degree. And while your hero automatically navigates in circles and resolves fights with enemies without any inputs, you also manage their inventory carefully to deal with the increasing challenges that each new round trip brings.Instead of controlling the hero's movements in Loop Hero, you control what they encounter on the loop.
Ultimately, Loop Hero challenges you to balance risk and reward by keenly considering all the options your current cards give you to make your next loop challenging, but not deadly. Each run is an opportunity to gather resources you use to expand your camp in the hub world, unlocking new cards, classes, and abilities to use on subsequent runs. Enemies drop specific resources that you'll need to further progress outside of each expedition, giving you incentives to place multiple groves for wild, mutated dogs or dimly lit houses that can spawn bloodthirsty vampires on tiles around them. With each new addition to the loop, you're also extending the time it takes to make a trip around it, which directly affects spawn rates of enemies that are tied to a persistent day-night cycle. While a tile might seem harmless when it's only adding one enemy to the loop every day, it can become dangerous when the route is stuffed to the point where an entire group might be waiting the next time you make it around again.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Animal Crossing Adds Whoopee Cushions, And They Make Several Different Toots
Animal Crossing: New Horizons players can grab another new seasonal item for a limited time. To celebrate April Fool's Day, whoopee cushions are available to order from Nook Shopping until April 1. The item costs 400 bells and will be available in different colors each day.
As you'd expect, the whoopee cushion makes various tooting sounds when sat on, ranging from a hearty "blrmph" to a more discreet "pfft." We tested the item out, and the staff was impressed by the range and volume of noises it produces. "Wow that's more aggressive than I expected," GameSpot's Chris Pereira said upon hearing the whoopee cushion. You can listen to it for yourself in the clip below.

Hori's New Monster Hunter Joy-Con Controller Looks Freakin' Awesome
One of the best Nintendo Switch controllers is undoubtedly the Hori Split Pad Pro, and it just got an awesome new design. In celebration of Monster Hunter Rise's release, Hori is releasing a themed version of its Joy-Con alternative. The Monster Hunter Split Pad Pro is $60 and releases April 26, a month after the game. It features a gorgeous design featuring the new Magnamalo monster done in a Japanese ink painting style.
Monster Hunter Rise Hori Split Pad Pro
$60
Acting as a Joy-Con alternative, the Split Pad Pro slides directly into the rails of the Nintendo Switch and provides players with two full-sized analog sticks, a more traditional D-pad, and two programmable back buttons. The face and shoulder buttons are all bigger, making it feel much more like a proper console controller than the Switch's Joy-Cons. The official Monster Hunter Pro controller is sold out everywhere, so this is a nice alternative to that--though they can't be used wirelessly. See at Amazon
Another cool feature of the Hori Split Pad Pro is the ability to turn Turbo on, which makes it so each button press triggers multiple inputs and holding them triggers rapid fire. And while the Hori Split Pad Pro's size is quite large, you are still able to slide the Nintendo Switch into its dock while using them.
Because of the Split Pad Pro's bigger controls, it's bound to work well with Monster Hunter Rise. The upcoming action game received a 9/10 in GameSpot's Monster Hunter Rise review-in-progress. Critic Richard Wakeling wrote, "The moment-to-moment combat is as impeccable as it's ever been and puts Rise on a pedestal as one of the feathers in the Nintendo Switch's cap."Continue Reading at GameSpot

'Pushed to the limit': could 2021 be the worst year ever for video games?
Millions bought new consoles in 2020. But with the pandemic ruining big releases, there’s a shortage of games to play on them
Since the pandemic began, the video games industry has been booming. Last year was a bumper year, with most of the world’s population forced inside by lockdowns and looking for safe ways to have fun and socialise, and new games consoles such as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S launching in November. UK consumers spent more on games last year than ever before; Roblox, a gaming platform popular with children and teens, saw an 85% uptick in players and shares in the company recently rose 60%, increasing its value to $47bn. Last year’s games were great, too, from lockdown saviour Animal Crossing: New Horizons to the provocative horror game The Last of Us II and the knockabout multiplayer caper Fall Guys.
But 2021, so far, is depressingly devoid of exciting gaming experiences. Since new PlayStation and Xbox consoles were launched last November, there has been almost nothing new to play on them – and due to supply issues, many thousands of people still haven’t been able to even buy one. Usually March is when the first big games of the year start to appear, but this time there’s been very little. Continue reading...

Monster Hunter Rise review – fantastic beasts and how to bind them
Nintendo Switch; Capcom
Flush with flash new tricks, simpler action and a bulging roster of hostile creatures, the latest instalment of the enduring series is an absurd delight
After you’ve felled a hard-scaled, fire-breathing dragon in Monster Hunter Rise, you can pose for a photo with your loyal cat and dog (taken by an owl, no less) as its corpse lies in a contorted rictus of agony in the background. Nothing better sums up the Monster Hunter experience than cutesy poses offset against a once-proud giant lizard, broken and humiliated, waiting to be carved up into tomorrow’s armour. That sense of achievement and joviality after brutal and bloody violence is the loop of tension and release that’s kept this series in the charts for 17 years.
Monster Hunter Rise deviates from the uncomfortably colonialist new-world casings of Monster Hunter World and leverages the newfound global popularity of the series to tone things down, take things a bit slower and bring you back to a more rural, communal setting: Kamura Village. But this idyllic slice of sylvan Japanese-inspired life is uneasy; the recurrent calamity of “the Rampage”, an apocalyptic event where the local fauna all turn blood-crazed at once, is in the back of the locals’ minds at all times. Australia urged to move on from ‘moral panic’ over video games after Disco Elysium banned

The banning of video game Disco Elysium from sale in Australia has renewed calls for the Australian government to overhaul the classification system to move away from the “moral panic” associated with video games.

Discord Is Exploring Sale That Could Be Worth Billions
Discord is exploring its options for a sale that could be worth more than $10 billion, VentureBeat has reported. Additional sources quoted by Bloomberg say that Microsoft is one of the companies involved in talks to acquire Discord--though it's still possible that Discord will go public rather than agree to a sale to a larger company.
Sources quoted by VentureBeat claim that the potential sale comes due to interest expressed by multiple parties. One person claims that Discord is in final negotiations with one party, having signed an exclusive acquisition discussion. A Bloomberg source said that Discord reached out to Microsoft to gauge interest, with Xbox head Phil Spencer involved in talks with the gaming chat company.
Others familiar with the matter said that Epic Games and Amazon have also been involved in discussions to buy Discord in the past, though it's unclear if negotiations with these companies are ongoing.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Rainbow Six Siege Sets Player Record After Free Weekend And New Season
Thanks in part to its latest free weekend and the launch of new content, Ubisoft's Rainbow Six Siege has set a new peak concurrent user record on Steam. According to Steam Charts, the team-based tactical shooter nearly hit 200,000 concurrent users for the first time, eclipsing the game's previous record of 198,500 in March 2020.
Data from Steam Charts (via Esports Observer) says Siege reached a new peak concurrent record of 199,830 for its new lifetime peak. It seems it will only be a matter of time before the game crosses the 200,000 threshold.
Siege has been one of the biggest comeback stories in gaming this generation. The game launched in 2015 and hit a record of around 40,000 concurrent players back then. As these latest numbers demonstrate, the game continues to grow, even years after release.Continue Reading at GameSpot

‘Marvel’s Avengers’ Sees 5x Player Increase After Hawkeye’s Release
With the release of Hawkeye in Marvel’s Avengers, only the second new hero after six months in the wake of a myriad of delays, I wondered if his arrival had marked an increase in the playercount in any meaningful capacity.

WWE Fastlane 2021: Live Results From The Road To Wrestlemania's Final Stop
The final stop on the road to Wrestlemania has arrived. It's WWE Fastlane, a pay-per-view that offers one final chance to shake up the championship bouts already set for next month's Wrestlemania. And luckily for you, GameSpot is here and ready to deliver all of the live results you'll need.
Of course, only one of WWE's top titles is on the line tonight, with Roman Reigns defending the Universal Championship. Still, the stakes for this show are high as we expect a number of storyline developments that will play directly into the Wrestlemania match card. Will The Fiend return tonight? Will Sasha Banks or Bianca Belair turn heel to cement their feud? Could Daniel Bryan find a way to insert himself into the Wrestlemania main event?
WWE Fastlane 2021 takes place at the Thunderdome, which emanates from the Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida. It's the last pay-per-view event at the Thunderdome before WWE heads to Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida next month for Wrestlemania. It remains to be seen what the company will do for the pay-per-views that follow.Continue Reading at GameSpot

New Dragon Age 4 Concept Art Is Giving Us Major Hat Envy
New Dragon Age 4 concept art has been revealed and while it's not a new trailer like we were hoping, it is giving us some major hat envy with that sleek Tevinter style.
BioWare executive producer Christian Dailey recently took to Twitter to share some new concept art for Dragon Age fans to feast their eyes on. With well wishes for a great weekend, Dailey shared our latest look at the upcoming adventure in Thedas, showing off a stylish upper-class Teventinter mage sporting some serious head fashion:
@SerGoldman perfect!
Happy Friday my friends - I hope you are all staying out of the rain! Stay safe. Have a great weekend!! pic.twitter.com/ViYBms8Gng — Christian Dailey (@ChristianDailey) March 20, 2021
Since The Game Awards gave us a nifty trailer to enjoy, filled with even more artwork and our first look at Tevinter's high-society landscapes and a glimpse at those pesky Antivan Crows, fans have been hungry to learn more about what's next - especially regarding a certain egghead named Solas. With Nevarra, Antiva, and Tevinter all on the horizon, Dragon Age 4 will be taking fans to the corners of Thedas previously unexplored yet heavily talked about. We might even see the hidden depths of Nevarra with a possible Mortalitassi companion, something we explored in-depth with our previous coverage here.
With the books (especially the anthology Tevinter Nights) and comics (most recently with Blue Wraith) pairing beautifully with the ending of the Tresspasser DLC in Dragon Age Inquisition, we've known that the next step for the Thedas tale would be set in Tevinter and the surrounding areas for awhile now. BioWare also previously confirmed this earlier this year, making the next step for the Dragon Age franchise an exciting one. We've learned so much about Nevarra, Antiva, and Tevinter through the games, but we've never actually been able to go there (in-game, we were able to be a part of Cassandra's adventure in Nevarra with the Dragon Age animated film, Dawn of the Seeker).
The anthology book with Tevinter Nights also gave us a closer look at the high society of Tevinter (alongside the earlier comics), including the return of Inquisition's Dorian Pavus. It was in his short story that we learned more about the high-class mages fighting for change and how they interact with one another when back in the land of Tevinter itself.
Looking at this concept art, it's possible that she may be one of the characters introduced in the anthology, or something else entirely. With that hat and smirk though? I'm just hoping she's a romance option, because pwoar. Yes, please.
What do you think about the latest Dragon Age 4 concept art tease? Interested in learning some of our theories about the next game? Check out our in-depth breakdown of red lyrium here, including how we think Solas had the purpose along of self corruption.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla Has Items Removed, Quests Disabled To Temporarily Fix Crashing
Assassin's Creed Valhalla's crashing issues have not been permanently solved yet, but the development team at Ubisoft does have a temporary solution. A new hotfix has removed certain items and quests that are contributing to the problem. However, it should let you experience Ravensthorpe without getting "desynchronized."
We’re deploying a server-side hotfix to address a rise in crashing near Ravensthorpe. Settlement decorations will be temporarily removed and Ostara Festival quests involving decorations will not be completable. Thanks for your patience as our team releases a permanent fix soon! pic.twitter.com/gYG7O8dvF3 — Assassin's Creed (@assassinscreed) March 20, 2021
Settlement decorations appear to be behind the crashes, so those have been removed from the game, as have quests for the Ostara Festival that involve those items. Once the permanent fix is out, these should be back in the game, but you'll have to wait a bit. Ubisoft set a window of "sometime next week" for the larger, permanent fix.
It's an issue that has only been in the game for a brief period--at least to this degree--so if you've taken more than a few days off from playing Assassin's Creed Valhalla, you likely haven't even noticed it. Prior to this, the game did have some technical issues, like characters' mouths not moving when they spoke or legs not moving when they ran, but crashing seemed to be relatively infrequent. In my own experience, I had one crash in more than 50 hours, and it came as I tried to fast travel away from Ravensthorpe.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Harvest Moon: One World review – a farming game that's gone to seed
Nintendo Switch; Natsume
This new iteration of the escape-to-the-country fantasy replaces all that was charming about earlier versions with an average adventure game
Before Farmville, before Stardew Valley, there was Harvest Moon – a Japanese farming game dating to 1996, when tending virtual crops and cows was new to video games. Created by Yasuhiro Wada, who wanted to convey the goodness of rural life, Harvest Moon has for most of this time been a straightforward escape-to-the-country fantasy about building up an abandoned farmstead and making a life in a nearby village. As vegetables grew, animals matured and friendships developed, you’d get sucked into the game’s predictable seasonal rhythms and gentle busywork. Since 2014, however, Harvest Moon has been in the hands of new developers, and let’s just say that changes have been made.
In One World, you do not move to a dilapidated farm; you pack up and explore a small continent of boring branching pathways that take a long time to walk down, and the occasional desert village or fishing town. Instead of building a tiny agricultural empire, you take a pop-up farm with you wherever you go, like a campsite. Different crops grow in different places, which could be interesting, but there’s no variation in how you look after them. In place of a village full of characters, we have cardboard cut-outs who do nothing but give you random tasks (bring me three sweetcorn). Continue reading...
