Morris Woman's Club will host a scrap/craft weekend from 6 to 10 p.m. on Friday, April 13 and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 14 at the First Presbyterian Church, 200 E. Jackson St., Morris.

Participants are invited to bring their favorite craft, whether it is scrapbooking, knitting, crocheting, painting, etc., and spend the weekend in fun and fellowship while raising money for Heifer International.

The fee for the weekend is $25 for adults and $5 for children ages 6 to 12. Children must be accompanied by an adult. The fee includes lunch, drinks and snacks. There will also be raffle items and door prizes. To register, call the church at (815) 942-1871 or Mary Lee Howard at (815) 942-5478.

Heifer International is a non-profit humanitarian organization dedicated to ending hunger and poverty and caring for the Earth. It provides livestock, trees, seeds and training in environmentally sound agriculture to families in more than 50 countries, including the United States.

Heifer partners with community groups to form development plans and to train beneficiaries in animal well-being, agroecology, water quality, gender equity and community development, as well as other topics.

It operates on the premise that if people receive training along with seeds or a farm animal it will not only help them to become self sufficient, but it helps the economy of the entire community. Any individual who is a recipient of such help must then pass on the training, plus seeds from the crop, or an off-spring of the animal. In that way, the gift keeps on giving.
