BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Sidney Crosby scored a goal with three assists to help the Pittsburgh Penguins snap a mini-slump with a 4-3 victory over the Buffalo Sabres on Friday night.

The Penguins captain became the NHL's seventh-youngest player to score his 600th career point. Crosby, at 24 years and 236 days, has 220 goals and 381 assists in 430 games.

Crosby achieved the plateau in the second period at Buffalo on Friday night, when he set up James Neal's power-play goal. It was Crosby's third point of the night after he assisted on Evgeni Malkin's goal and also scored in the first period.

It was Crosby's third four-point game in a season in which concussion troubles have limited him to 18 games.

"He's the greatest thing I've ever seen," Penguins goalie Brent Johnson said. "Coming back the way he has is just fantastic. He's priceless."

The Sabres had a five-game winning streak snapped, and dropped into ninth place, behind the Washington Capitals. Both teams have four games left and 86 points, but the Capitals hold the tiebreaker edge.

Colorado 4, Calgary 1: Semyon Varlamov made 38 saves for the visiting Avalanche. Mark Olver, David Jones, Milan Hejduk and Peter Mueller scored to help the Avs snap a four-game skid.

Columbus 4, Florida 1: Nikita Nikitin scored twice and had an assist for the host Blue Jackets.

N.Y. Rangers 4, Montreal 1: Marian Gaborik and Brad Richards scored early, and defenseman Michael Del Zotto had two goals in the third as the host Rangers won their fourth in a row and moved closer to securing the top seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs.

Winnipeg 4, Carolina 3 (OT): Andrew Ladd scored 16 seconds into OT, eliminating the host Hurricanes from playoff contention.

Los Angeles 4, Edmonton 1: The visiting Kings got a goal and an assist from Anze Kopitar.
